A very fine and rare Swiss 18 carat rose gold half open-faced minute repeating split-seconds chronograph keyless lever pocket watch, circa 1888. Retailed and cased by Tiffany & Co, New York. Sold on July 17th, 1889. Nickel-silver movement, Geneva striping decoration, 23 jewels, straight-line counterpoised lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Gold hinged cuvette. White enamel dial with painted Breguet numerals, outer minute and 1/5 seconds divisions with red Arabic five minute/seconds markers, and original blued steel spade hands. Solid, polished case, rectangular pusher on the band for the split-seconds function, locking bolt at 11 o’clock, concealed hinges. Dial, case, and movement signed by retailer. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives.
