Gold five-minute repeating open faced lever

A very fine and extremely rare Swiss gold open faced five-minute repeating keyless lever miniature pendant watch, circa 1890. Retailed by T. Kirkpatrick, New York. Rhodium-plated movement, Geneva striping decoration, 29 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs with two polished steel hammers. Gold hinged cuvette. White enamel with Breguet numerals, outer minute track and original black spade hands. Polished case, the back with a black champlevé enamel monogram. Movement signed T. Kirkpatrick N.Y.

Miniature repeating watches are extremely rare and most of those made are minute repeating. This piece is one of the smallest ever made and is highly unusual in being a five-minute repeater.
