Early gold half hunter with integral compass by Muller

A very fine, rare and early Swiss 18 carat gold half hunting cased keyless lever pocket watch with an integral compass, circa 1855. Retailed by De By & Fils, la Haye. Movement with unusual calibre, 15 jewels, counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Gold hinged cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds and original blued steel Breguet hands. Case foliate engraved with polished borders, the front with glazed aperture and applied gold Roman numerals on a matted chapter ring, the back set with a compass surrounded by applied gold points of the compass on a matted chapter ring, flat-top crown. Cuvette signed by the retailer, movement signed by the watchmaker, on the dial plate.
