Silver verge watch with alarm by Simon Mair

Very fine and rare German silver pair cased verge pocket watch with alarm, circa 1720. Gilt brass full plate movement, divided Egyptian pillars with pierced scroll capitals, fusee with chain, verge escapement, three armed brass balance, flat balance spring, pierced and engraved gilt brass cock and backplate furniture, brass regulation disc, alarm train with engraved fixed brass barrel, sounding on a bell in the back of the case. Silver champlevé dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track and outermost large Arabic five-minute numerals, central alarm setting disc, outer gilt brass dial plate edge engraved with stylized leaves and blued steel beetle and poker hands. The band of the outer case pierced and engraved with foliage intersected by four profile portrait busts, bezel decorated to match, inner case with deep back, the band finely pierced and chased with inhabited foliage, winding apertures for the going and alarm trains. Movement signed.
