A fine French 18 carat gold open faced minute repeating keyless lever pocket watch, circa 1890. Retailed by Léon Simon à Besançon. Matte gilt movement, 29 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, counterpoised straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring with overcoil, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Gold hinged cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, outer Arabic five-minute numerals, subsidiary seconds and original gold Louis XVI hands. Polished case, the back cover with engraved foliate monogram. Movement signed LeCoultre & Co under the hour hammer, case numbered. |
