A very fine and rare English 18 carat gold hunting cased minute repeating keyless lever watch with Piguet’s patented Westminster Carillon chime on four hammers made for the Turkish Market, circa 1900. Gilt finished highly jewelled lever movement, bimetallic compensation balance, Westminster carillon repeating on four hammers onto four gongs, glazed dust cover. Gold cuvette with engraved inscription Repetition a Minutes Grande Sonnerie Westminster Qualité Supérieure. White enamel dial with Turkish numerals and subsidiary seconds. Heavy case, finely chased and engraved floral and foliage decoration in high relief, initials ‘JA’ to the front, repeating slide in the band. Case stamped with English assay marks and numbered, dial signed Edward Prior London, movement stamped with Constant Piguet’s Patent No. 11948.
