Large gold, enamel and pearl set open faced watch by Bovet

A very fine, large and impressive English 18 carat gold, enamel and pearl set open faced duplex watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1820. Bovet’s finely chased and engraved floral decorated gilt finished Chinese calibre, duplex escapement, large five armed steel balance, diamond endstone. Engraved foliage and sunburst decorated gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, gold spade hands and large subsidiary seconds. Substantial case, turquoise enamel bezel and rim set with alternating split pearls in sizes, translucent scarlet and blue champlevé enamel and split pearl set band, similarly decorated pendant, translucent scarlet enamel and pearl set bow, finely painted polychrome enamel miniature depicting a loving couple to the reverse, attributed to Jean-François-Victor Dupont. Case numbered and stamped with casemaker’s initials IE, movement signed and numbered.
