Gold lever pocket watch by Enar
–
A very fine Swiss decorative gold pocket watch, circa 1840-1850. This watch has a lever escapement and a white enamel dial with black numerals. The bezels, pendant, and bow are decorated with intricate floral engravings, while the case back features an engine-turned design with a monogrammed cartouche in the centre. The watchmaker, Enar, is signed on the inner lid in script, along with the location of Geneva. The watch also bears a marking of a horse’s head, which is a gold assay mark used for departments starting in 1838.
