A very fine Swiss, early and rare five-minute repeating, 18K yellow gold, keyless pocket watch, circa 1881. Accompanied by the Extract from the Archives. Made for Bailey, Banks & Biddle, Philadelphia in 1881, sold on November 21, 1881. The back cover with engraved initials (WMB). Hinged gold cuvette with dedication inscription.

White enamel dial with narrow radial Roman numerals, outer minute track with painted 5-minute indexes, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel spade hands. A rhodium-plated movement, Geneva striping decoration, 31 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, counterpoised straight-line calibrated lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Dial, case, cuvette and movement signed Bailey, Banks & Biddle, the case also signed Patek Philippe.
