Gold open faced key wound cylinder watch
–
A fine English 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch from the early 19th century. It has a mechanical key wound manual movement with cylinder escapement. The white enamel dial features black Roman numerals for the hours, an outer minute track with Arabic numerals at the quarters, a large central seconds hand, and elegant gold hands. The timepiece is housed in a substantial three body, 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case, hallmarked ET. The bezel has vibrant polychrome enamel details and is attached to a distinctively fluted pendant stem decorated with black enamel accents, with a sturdy oval suspension bow. The solid yellow gold back cover is finely chased with decorative foliate friezes along the perimeter, centred on an engraved radiating starburst motif with a central rosette, and includes a dedicated winding keyhole.
