Gold quarter repeating verge pocket watch

A fine and rare English, quarter repeating, 20k gold repoussé pair cased pocket watch, circa 1740. Made for The Islamic Market by John Johnson, London. The inner case with London hallmarks for 1740. A repoussé outer case, decorated with a trophy with the crescent moon in an asymmetrical rococo cartouche pierced foliate outer border, bezel decorated to match. The inner case has a pierced and engraved band with scrolling foliage and crescent moons, the crescent moon at the front. Gilt-brass dust cap.

Gilt metal dial with cartouches, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, five-minute Arabic numerals. Blued steel beetle and poker hands. A hinged, frosted gilt full plate movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved single-footed cock, silver regulation dial with Islamic numerals, repeating on bell activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed.
