Gold and enamel open faced repeating verge

A fine French 18K gold and enamel open faced quarter repeating pocket watch, circa 1790. Engraved and pierced band, the case back decorated with the en grisaille figures of a mother and daughter seated on a grassy knoll, a blue and white striped background and a gold paillon border. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions and quarter-hour numerals, a winding aperture at 2 o’clock, secured by a screw, pierced gold hands.

 

Hinged gilt-brass full plate movement with conical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt-brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece, silver regulation dial, repeating on a bell in the back of the case activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed.
