An early English single-handed verge pocket watch, circa 1650.
Silver gilt case chased and engraved with elaborate foliage and bird of prey decoration. Silver dial, champlevé, Roman numerals, one hand. Full plate movement, gut/fusee, two-arm iron balance without balance spring.

Jeremie Gregory (d. 1686) worked in London, Cornhill/Royal Exchange. He was a member of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1652 and a master in 1665. A maker of repute, a travelling clock by him is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, a silver alarm watch in the Guildhall Museum, and another in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
