The Patek Philippe Museum catalogue “The Mirrorof Seduction – Prestigious pairs of ‘Chinese’ Watches” shows on page 150 an unsigned pocket watch for the Chinese market which dates to around 1820 or 1830. On its back it features an enamel painting which is almost identical to that of this watch, showing the storehouses and the fort at Canton. The painting is attributed to leading enamel painter Jean-Louis Richter (1766-1841). A similar gold enamel quarter repeating pocket watch by Piguet Meylan was sold in our 87th auction for EUR 169.400.
