An almost as new, heavy, rare and early minute repeating English gentleman’s pocket watch with duplex escapement, circa 1820.
18 carat gold engine turned case with engine turned band, gold dome and case maker punch mark “HH”. Signed enamel dial with radial Roman numerals and gold Breguet hands. Full plate movement, keywind, lavishly florally engraved, frosted, gilt, 3 hammers, 3 gongs, chain/fusee, duplex escapement, three-arm steel balance, fine florally engraved, pierced balance cock with grotesque face, silver regulator disc, chatoned diamond endstone on balance.

Peter Grimalde (sometimes also written as Grimaldi) is proven to be a chronometer and watchmaker in London from around 1810 to around 1815 and enjoyed a very good reputation. He had his business on 431 Strand in London . Table and grandfather clocks are also known from him. From 1815 to 1825 he traded under Grimalde & Johnson , Strand, London.
