A heavy, representative and large English pair-cased half quarter repeating verge pocket watch with hour self strike, circa 1775.
Two cases: outer case – 22 Carat gold, à goutte, with finely engraved and pierced edges and large lateral hinge; inner case – 22 Carat gold, with circular hand-engraved foliate decoration, pierced band, engraved grotesque face at 6, an engraved landscape at 12, rear bell, case maker’s punch mark JC (Joseph Carpenter, Blue Anchor Alley, Bunhill Row, London, entered October 17, 1774), pusher for repetition via pendant, and a signed silver movement protection cap. Enamel dial with radial Roman hours and gold Poker & Beetle hands. Full plate movement, keywind, frosted, gilt and signed, with chain/fusee, barrel, three hammers, conical pillars, three-arm steel balance, very finely engraved pierced balance cock with mascaron, and set diamond endstone.
