Gold open faced lever pocket watch
–
A fine 18 carat gold anker chronometer with linear perpetual calendar made in Switzerland, circa 1890. The numbered open faced plain case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track with Arabic minutes, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, an aperture at 12 for the so-called American perpetual calendar indicating the month, date and day of the week and pink gold hands. The fine anker chronometer movement has a bishop’s crook lever, wolf’s toothing and is possibly made by Audemars.

The linear digital calendar is a calendar in which the date is displayed in a single aperture, allowing for a clear dial to be read at a glance. This type of display became popular in the Art Deco period and is most often found in watches destined for the Anglo-American market. This kind of calendar then became known as the American perpetual calendar.
