A fine gold enamel verge pocket watch with engine-turned and translucent cobalt blue enamelled backside, circa 1820.
A gold enamel case, the backside engine-turned and translucent cobalt blue enamelled, the bezels on both sides with engraved foliage and white champléve enamel within a light-blue border, an enamelled pendant, and case maker’s punch mark GR. An enamel dial with radial Arabic numerals and Scotties hands. And a signed keywind, firegilt full plate movement with chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance, and fine florally engraved and pierced balance bridge.

Joseph Dodds, English watchmaker
Joseph Dodds Sr. was the son of William Dodds and was a resident of the parish of Saint Ann and Agnes in Aldersgate, London. He became a member of the Clockmakers Company in 1794. Joseph Dodds married the spinner Mary Bearda Holm of the parish of Saint Bridget on October 4, 1783. He was 24 years old, she was 23 years old. From this marriage, Joseph Dodds junior was born. This was trained from October 12, 1807, to November 7, 1814, with the father. From received William Stephens his education at Joseph Dodds.
Joseph Dodds died in 1817.
