Gold open faced cylinder watch

A fine and rare 18K yellow gold pocket watch with swing automaton “The Swing” German, circa 1810. Case with engine turned back, reeded band. Eccentric, set into the lower part of a silver guilloché and flower engraved plate, white enamel dial with radial Arabic numerals, minute dot divisions with five-minute Arabic numerals, the top with a semi-circular aperture for the automaton scene, which is entirely painted on ivory.
The girl on the swing is linked to the balance, and moves to and fro between two boys. Gold Breguet hands. Hinged, gilt brass full plate movement, entirely engraved in asymmetrical scrolls with a lion’s head at the top flanked by two eagles, circular pillars, fusee and chain, cylinder escapement, plain three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, continental style two-footed pierced and engraved cock placed in the centre of the movement. The automaton is driven by an additional pinion added to the going train.
