Very fine exquisite thin pocket watch with pearls
–
A very fine, exquisite thin and numbered gold enamel pocket watch with rare virgule escapement and pearls, made by Roman Melly & Roux in Konstanz (Constance), Germany, circa 1810. The exceptional quality open faced case is crafted from 18 Carat pink gold and is glazed and has Oriental pearls on both sides and a completely original, fine enamel painting, on the back lid, depicting Venus with Adonis and a small putto on a meadow in front of a cobalt blue enamelled ground, in the upper part an oval enamel cartouche with gold paillon decoration with a lady’s portrait, crowned by a baldachin. The white enamel dial has an outer ring with Arabic quarter hour numerals (outside), Arabic hour numerals (inside), pink gold hands and a winding whole fitting the corresponding figurative gold key with dog head. The very movement has a rare caliber with virgule escapement and is very thin.
Case and movement have corresponding numbers and the movement is signed.
