Albert Steiger was born in Arbon in 1847. He apprenticed as a jeweller with Fries in Zurich and later trained in Geneva and Paris; afterwards, he joined his father’s company and took over the business upon the death of his parents. In 1885, the company “Steiger und Bindschedler” moved to St Gallen, where it turned into one of the most successful jewellery stores in east Switzerland. Steiger died in 1912.
