Gold form watch with miniature cylinder escapement
–
A gold and enamel ball form watch of exceptional quality and rarity made by Gide & Blondet Fils in France, circa 1790. The case of this watch is crafted from 18 carat gold and enamel in a very unusual design with a button in the pendant to open the case, enamelled black in the lower area with gold floral inlays, the upper half with four miniature paintings, two of which represent floral motifs and two others showing bird motifs. The white enamel dial bears black Arabic numerals for both the hours and outer fifteen minute divisions, and gold hands. The movement is fitted with a miniature cylinder escapement.
The dial and movement are signed.
