Gold enamel keyless repeating cylinder watch
–
A fine French 18 carat rose gold and enamel open faced pocket watch with quarter repeating complication, made for the Ottoman market, circa 1840. This watch has a mechanical crown winding gilt brass movement with a cylinder escapement and a quarter repeater mechanism striking two hammers on gongs, activated by pushing the pendant. The white enamel dial shows black Turkish hour markers, an outer minute track, and Breguet style hands.
–
The timepiece is housed in an exquisitely decorated round three body, 18 carat solid rose gold open faced case. The reverse side features a radiant scalloped enamel decoration of alternating floral bouquets and motifs set against vibrantly painted pink and translucent green grounds, over a fine engine turned guilloché background. It has a matching enamel decorated bezel and bow, a fluted winding crown, and an internal 18 carat rose gold protective cuvette.
