Gold open faced verge watch
–
A French 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch from the second quarter of the 19th century. It has a mechanical movement with a verge escapement and a key winding system, complete with its winding key. The white enamel dial shows black Roman numeral hour markers, an outer minute track with Arabic five minute numerals (5–60), and openwork blued steel hands. The 18 carat yellow gold case has a hinged back cover chased with a central unengraved cartouche, surrounded by a decorative border and elaborate garlands of flowers and leaves. The case includes a smooth, rounded bow ring on a cylindrical stem. Inside, a metal dust cover protects the mechanism.
