–
A French 18 carat gold, enamel and pearl set open faced quarter repeating verge pocket watch from the Louis-Philippe period, made for the Turkish market, circa 1840. This watch features a full plate keywinding movement with verge escapement. The white enamel dial displays Turkish numerals, outer railway minute divisions, a blued hour hand, and a gold minute hand. (small chip on the edge of the dial at 7 o’clock.) The 18 carat gold case is richly decorated with a bouquet of flowers in polychrome enamel on a guilloché background, surrounded by a frame of half turquoise pearls set against a background of chiselled roses. Engraved inside LEROY et Fils/Hgers du Roi/A Paris. It includes its gilt metal watch holder, which forms a pocket tray with an opaline glass bowl. (Height: 17.5 cm)
