Gold open faced cylinder watch

A French 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch, circa 1880. It has a hand wound mechanical movement with a cylinder escapement and eight rubies, with key winding through the back. The white enamel dial shows painted black Roman numerals for the hours, a minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and steel fleur de lys hands. The watch has a round, solid gold open faced case with a spherical pendant, a round bow, a gold back cuvette bearing the French horsehead hallmark, and an engine turned case back delicately engraved with a border of floral scrolls and a vacant oval cartouche at the centre.
