Gold open faced pocket watch with filigree chain
–
A French 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch, made by A. Aldebert in Paris, circa 1895. This watch features a hand wound mechanical movement with cylinder escapement, typical of high quality French watchmaking of the late 19th century. The white enamel dial displays Roman numerals for the hours, an outer railway minute track with Arabic numerals at five minute intervals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and spade hands. The dial is in good condition, retaining its original enamel surface consistent with its age. The glass is detached. The round 18 carat yellow gold case is fitted with two gold shells. The case back is engraved with a personal monogram, suggesting this piece was made as a gift or personal commission. The case bears the French horsehead hallmark, confirming its French origin and period of production. Accompanied by a fine filigree watch chain in yellow gold, measuring 51.5 cm in length, gross weight 14 g
