Gold enamelled key wound watch set with stones

A French gold, enamel and stone set open faced quarter repeating key wound pocket watch, circa 1770. The full plate movement with a verge escapement, an openworked and engraved cock, fine adjustment through an auxiliary dial on the back of the movement. Screwed white enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track, Arabic five minute numerals and original gold hands set with stones. The polychrome enamelled case with a stone set bezel on the front. Movement signed and numbered.

The case is partially restored, the pusher of emerald is worn, there are cracks in the decor/enamel and some jewels are missing. The dial further has more than two hairline cracks and the minute hand is repaired.

De La Gardette in Paris, France. Louis-Mathieu de la Gardette received his master’s degree in 1767. He was a skilful watchmaker and received the status of Watchmaker to the Duke of Chartres, an important noble title in Royal France.
