A French yellow gold pocket watch with a concealed guillotine dial, circa 1930. The watch features a 16″ ligne movement with 18 jewels, a silvered guilloché dial with a guillotine slide, Roman radial hours, an outer minutes track, and blue Breguet style hands. It comes in a plain 18 carat yellow gold case with a snap on case back and is signed on the case, dial and movement.

The case is in generally good condition, with surface wear and scuffing consistent with its age and even a light patina throughout. The coin edged bezel is also in good condition. The dial is in fair condition with surface wear, marks and patina throughout, and the guillotine slide is operating. The movement is currently running.
–
Guillotine is the term used in Cartier manufacturing records to describe this type of watch with sprung shutters concealing the dial. This is an early example, from Cartier, before the 1920s saw the design come into vogue.
