A French 18 carat gold open faced pocket watch with date, circa 1790. Gilt full plate movement, plain three-arm balance, Pierced and engraved bridge cock with polished steel coqueret, silver regulator disc with blued steel indicator.
White enamel dial, Arabic numerals, gold beetle and poker hands and date hand. Polished case. Movement signed Chevalier & Comp.

The company Chevalier & Cie or Chevalier & Compagnie is documented in Geneva in the nineties of the 18th century. Whether Jacob Chevalier, who worked alone in this city in the second half of the 18th century, then worked with Mathey, has anything to do with Chevalier & Cie has not yet been established, but in terms of time Chevalier & Mathey (1786-1792) very likely to have been the direct predecessor of this company.
