A French silver pair-cased Bassine–type pocket watch with early balance spring, central key-winding, and alarm, circa 1680.
Full plate movement, fire gilded brass, Egyptian pillars, fixed barrel, verge escapement, monometallic balance with three arms (polished steel) and blued steel flat early hairspring, pierced and engraved gilded continental Louis XIV cock, silver regulator disc; central winding; alarm train with a fixed gilded brass barrel, pierced and engraved with foliage, without fusee. Silver champlevé dial with radial Roman numerals inside cartouches; inner revolving alarm setting disc with Arabic numerals, original blued steel single hand, and one horological complication: • Alarm on one bell (winding at 9.30). Round-shaped silver case, two-piece case, Bassine’ with split bezel, the border of the back finely pierced and engraved with inhabited foliage. And a later silver and shark skin-covered protecting case. (circa 1730-1740; Ø 60.2 mm.). Movement signed.
