A fine, skeletonized French quarter repeating gentleman’s pocket watch, circa 1815.
18 carat rose gold polished case with reeded band, pusher for repetition via pendant and glazed movement. The skeletonized dial has an enamel chapter ring, Arabic numerals and blued hands. Full plate movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, with mirror-polished steel parts, 2 hammers, 2 gongs, club-tooth lever escapement and three-arm ring balance.

François-Xavier Thiaffait also Felix François-Xavier Thiaffait and Antoine François-Xavier Thiaffait worked in Lyon around 1810 . He was a watchmaker and money changer. He worked in place du Change à Lyon in 1810. Thiaffait was the buyer of Antoine Nourrisson’s watch shop on place du Change and signed his watches with Thiaffait Nourrisson. But he bought the business from Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Nourrisson. He later lived in place des Terreaux No. 1, Eecke rue Romarin. He also owned some properties in and out of town. 1826 he was mentioned as a money changer.

He was born on May 13, 1780 in Seurre to Claude Antoine Thiaffait (1750-1785) and Marie Anne Barbey (1758-1822) . He married Julie Claudine Crispi (1787-1834) on November 17, 1808 in Lyon. From this marriage 2 children were born, a son Paul Félix Xavier (1811-1871) who became a notary, and daughter Joséphine Virginie (1815-1892). Paul Félix Xavier is also known as Philippe-Xavier-Pau as the son of Félix-François Thiaffait and Claudine-Julie Crispi. In any case, François-Xavier Thiaffait is correct.
