Beautiful diamond set gold and enamel pocket watch with chatelaine

A French gold, enamel and diamond-set verge with matching chatelaine and case, circa 1790. Full plate gilt fusee movement, finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three-arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Winding through the signed white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, gold beetle and poker hands. Case finely decorated with white and pale blue champlevé enamel depicting foliage and birds, in the centre of a navette shaped frame a vase highlighted by small diamonds. Gold and enamel rectangular pendant. Gold Macaroni chatelaine similarly decorated on both sides with champlevé enamel and bordered by pearls, four suspended chains each with an accessory. Contained in the original dumbbell-shaped case of red morocco with decorative gilt tooling.

Original case, in slightly faded condition. Hookless Macaroni chatelaines decorated on both sides are uncommon. They came into fashion in the early 1770s intended to be worn over a belt, the two ends hanging down.
