Brass and silver verge pendant watch
–
A very rare, square pendant watch in Renaissance style made by Johann Sigmund Schloer in Regensburg, Germany, circa 1730. The highly decorative case of this watch was crafted from brass with silver fittings. The matching dial features Roman hour numerals and the probably original hands. The movement is fitted with an early verge escapement, square plate, chain and fusee, a foliot, no hairspring and replaced iron ornamental elements.
The movement is signed.

Although the watch presented here was made in the style of the early 17th century, it was manufactured in the 18th century. The Regensburg watchmaker Schloer is known for many different form clocks, for example, cross watches and clocks in the shape of books or caskets.

Signed: Johann Sigmund Schloer
