Brass drum shaped watch, probably from South Germany
–
An extremely rare, important, museum like German one-handed Renaissance drum shaped watch, circa 1500-1550. It is one of the smallest known clocks in the world and one of the earliest wearable clocks. Very few of these early portable clocks have survived. Brass case with remains of originally fire gilding pushed back with bottom plate and sides florally decorated, three bun feet and costly florally engraved band. Brass dial with remains of fire gilding, an engraved ring with Roman chapters from I to XII, twelve tactile knob markers for night reading, the center engraved with wind rose and sun ray motif and a single iron hand. Iron movement, gut string fusée, verge escapement, rim foliot, driven by gut string, possibly original key.

Even though this clock has been repaired and restored over the centuries, it is in exceptionally good condition. In addition, it even still starts ticking when you wind it up. This is a museum quality condition for clocks of this period. With a diameter of only 53mm, this is one of the smallest known Renaissance drum clocks. An almost matching example was in the famous Sandberg collection which was auctioned in Geneva in 2001

The clock is accompanied by two expert opinions, which confirm the initial micro signatures.
