Gilt brass pocket watch from Southern Germany

A very fine German case of a Renaissance “clock watch”, circa 1580.
Brass, fire gilt case with all over rich open work floral chasing and engraving. The hinged front with spoke shaped open work detail showing the hours; chased weaponed equestrian scene in the centre. Back decorated with mascarons and figures, leaf scrolls and battue motifs around the edge. Copper, fire gilt dial, applied white enamel cartouches with radial Roman numerals, with centred engraved foliate scrolls and finely cut hand. Full plate movement, applied scrollwork, ornamental stones, three-arm brass balance, pierced balance bridge with an engraved scene of Christ on the cross flanked by two mythological creatures.
