A French silver verge clockwatch, circa 1680. Gilt full plate movement, pierced and engraved balance cock, three arm steel balance, going train and striking mechanism driven by two pierced barrels with foliate motif, blued steel count wheel. White enamel dial, Roman numerals, half and quarter hour track and single steel hand. The case back finely pierced and engraved with an intricate foliate designed, associated wooden shagreen outer case with applied silver monogram to the centre. Movement signed.

Estienne Hubert is recorded as a master watchmaker between 1656 – 1702 and was a very fine maker. Examples of his watches can be found in the British Museum, Guildhall Museum, Victorian & Albert Museum, Louvre and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
