The present watch was originally given to Hayward Malcolm Hutchinson (1831-1883) in 1875.  Mr. Hutchinson resided in Washington, D.C. and was the esteemed manager of Alaska Commercial Co., a business that operated nearly all the general retail stores in Alaska. This personalized pocket watch has been passed down through generations to the current owner.

Galt Bros. was established in Washington D.C. in 1802 and was the area’s oldest continuously running private business before closing its doors nearly two centuries later, in 2001. The store attracted the attention of the city’s most important residents, with Abraham Lincoln counted among the store’s clientele. By the late 19th century Galt Bros. was one of Patek Philippe’s largest retailers in the United States.
