A French gold and enamel keyless pocket watch with Egyptian motif and brooch, circa 1899. Cal. 10”’ lever escapement, jewelled to the centre, wolf tooth winding. Signed and numbered gold cuvette with inscription. White enamel dial, Breguet numerals and blued steel hands. 18 Carat case with red to yellow translucent enamel over engine turned ground in a sunset design, palm trees and applied Sphinx. Case, dial and movement signed. Associated winged yellow gold and enamel diamond set brooch with attached chain, red and green translucent enamel design to the wings. With a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming sale in 1902, fitted presentation case.

This watch is a very nice example from the Art Nouveau period. The highly relieved Sphinx is detached to give a perspective aspect to the enamel work. This Geneva enamel style is typical of the period, combining ‘flinque’ and miniature technics.
