Gold open faced key winding cylinder watch
–
A fine French 18 carat yellow gold open faced key winding pocket watch with a matching watch chain from the 19th century. This exceptionally flat timepiece has a mechanical key winding gilt brass movement with a cylinder escapement featuring four rubies. The silvered radiating dial has a guilloché background, black Roman numerals for the hours, a fine outer railroad minute track (chemin de fer), and sleek Breguet style hands. The timepiece is housed in an intricately decorated round two body 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case with a delicately chased bezel and a reverse back cover lavishly engraved with detailed floral scrolls and foliage flourishes. The watch is accompanied by a matching 19th century mixed metal watch chain crafted with 18 carat yellow gold and 800 silver navette links weighing 18.60 grams.
