Gold pocket watch with mythological automata
–
A Swiss gold pocket watch with automata and chimes, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. This watch has a mechanical movement visible through a skeletonised side with glass, revealing the automata and mechanism. The white enamelled dial features Arabic numerals for the hours. The automata depict two antique mythological figures, each carrying a hammer, positioned below a blooming basket and the Temple of Love. The round case is hinged, with a back decorated in radiating gold guilloché, numbered IF I 0483 and bearing two illegible marks. The watch is accompanied by its matching gold chain (10.8 gr.).
