Gold keywind repeating musical cylinder watch
–
A very rare and fine Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch with a musical mechanism, circa 1800. It has a mechanical key winding movement with a cylinder escapement. The music mechanism plays on the hour or on demand. The quarter repeating mechanism strikes the hours and quarters on a steel gong spring and includes integrated strike silent settings. It is stamped with the master maker mark C & LL. The white enamel dial features elegant black Breguet numerals for the hours, discreet musical function setting indicators, an outer minute track, and blued steel Breguet hands. The timepiece is housed in an 18 carat yellow gold open faced case with a reeded engine turned bezel and band, a metal inner lid, a winding aperture on the dial, a winding profile on the back cover, and a sturdy oval suspension bow.
