Gold open faced repeating verge watch
–
A Swiss 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch, early 19th century. This watch has a key wound mechanical movement with a chased and pierced cock, three arm spiral balance, verge escapement, and an advance/delay adjusting disc. The quarter repeating striking mechanism is triggered by the pendant and operates a two hammer gong chime. The white enamel dial shows stylised Arabic numerals for the hours, a minute track, blued steel Breguet style hands, and an aperture for the square winding mechanism. The round 18 carat yellow gold case has a smooth back, a fluted caseband, and is numbered inside. The watch includes a gilded metal cuvette.
