A magnificent Swiss 18k gold enamel and pearl minute repeating clockwatch with center seconds made for the Chinese market, circa 1890, 18″ ligne gilt two train movement, key wound and set, bimetallic compensation balance, highly jeweled, some carried in gold screwed down chatons, hammer repeating on gongs, gold cuvette engraved in English with details of the movement.White enamel dial, Roman numerals, red paste set gold trefoil hands, center seconds, the case with finely polychrome enameled scene representing a peacock perched on a corbel in the foreground, looking over a seascape and a scene representing an Oriental city, band decorated with translucent red enamel over engine turning engraved with running leaf tips, pearl set bezels, case and cuvette numbered.

Enamel attributed to Louis Rosselet.
Louis Rosselet, a Genevoise enameller working from the mid 19th to the early 20th century, was known for his whimsical scenes depicting peacocks and fanciful Far Eastern scenes.
A nearly identical watch was sold at Antiquorum 1980s auction. Another nearly identical scene is illustrated in Chapuis, A., La Montre Chinoise.
