There was a formal, crucial partnership between Antoine LeCoultre and Auguste Borgeaud. In fact, this partnership saved the company from financial ruin and laid the structural foundation for what is known today as Jaeger-LeCoultre. By the late 1850’s, despite Antoine LeCoultre’s brilliant engineering mind and precision inventions, the company faced severe liquidity issues and financial distress. Antoine was a masterful artisan, but the business required commercial stabilisation. To overcome this, Antoine partnered with Auguste Borgeaud (a skilled merchant, watchmaker and accountant) in around 1859.
