Rare rock crystal Swiss verge pocket watch

A fine rare Swiss verge in gold set rock crystal consular case, circa 1750. Full plate gilt fusee movement with pentagonal baluster pillars. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with garnet endstone in a polished steel coqueret, plain three-arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Large silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Winding through the white enamel dial, Roman and Arabic numerals, and decorative gold hands. Very rare and attractive rock crystal case, the back and bezel in gold settings, gold pendant and bow. The surface rock crystal carved in a curved radiating pattern.

In excellent condition. Although rock crystal was used for watch cases in the early 17th Century by 1700 it was no longer popular. This watch uses two substantial pieces for the back and bezel.
