A Swiss gilded silver, enamel and half pearl-set open faced lever pocket watch with centre seconds made for the Chinese market, circa 1880.
The case back with a polychrome enamel painting by an unidentified workshop, showing a young couple making an offering on an altar of Love, neoclassical style, on a royal blue background, fluted case band, the pendant, bow and bezel on both sides set with half-pearls. White enamel dial with radial Roman hours, outer minutes track with Arabic fifteen-minute numerals, centre seconds hand and blued pear hands. Gilt-brass movement engraved in Chinese-style, lateral lever escapement, key-winding, going barrel, polished steel monometallic balance with blued steel wings balance and blued steel flat hairspring.
