Edmond Mathey-Tissot
In 1886, watchmaker Edmond Mathey-Tissot founded his workshop in Les Ponts-de-Martel (Neuchâtel), Switzerland. Mathey-Tissot was a maker of high quality watches and mostly worked for large, well known companies.

In 1914, Mathey-Tissot was represented with six chronometers at the Kew Observatory competition, all of which were rated “particularly good”. In the same year, the company won the Grand Prix of the Swiss National Exhibition. During the First World War (1914-1918), they supplied the United States Army Corps of Engineers with precision chronographs.

The Cartier Private Museum has an eight day travel alarm clock by Mathey-Tissot in its collection, originally acquired by the Duchess of Windsor. Mathey-Tissot further was Elvis Presley’s main supplier of wristwatches with ELVIS PRESLEY engraved in the bezels.

Mathey-Tissot has nothing to do with the watch manufacturer Tissot SA., but there is a pocket watch with a perpetual calendar and moon phases made by Edmond Mathey-Tissot which was simply signed Tissot on the dial. It possibly was ordered by and delivered to Tissot SA.

Signed: Mathey-Tissot & Cie.
