An especially heavy anker chronometer with chronograph, made by Max Mayer, Successeur de Arthur Jaccard du Gros in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1890. The numbered case of this watch crafted from 14 carat gold features three gold lids and the very fine quality enamel dial has an outer track with red Arabic 5 minute numerals, black Arabic hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, a dial with a 60 minute counter at 12 o’clock and gold hands. The movement is fitted with an anker chronometer escapement, a chronograph and an especially large balance.

Max Mayer was a Swiss watchmaker who operated in Geneva during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His firm is primarily known for continuing the legacy of Arthur Jaccard, a member of a prominent Geneva watchmaking family.
Records from auction houses place the production of Mayer’s pocket watches around 1900–1915.
