Exquisite watch with gold paillonné inlays on both sides
–
An exquisite gold and enamel ladies’ watch for the Indian market, made by Henry Capt in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1880. The typical splendour case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold, is finely chased, has 14 chased arches, green engine turned enamel with gold paillonné inlays on both sides and an enamel painting representing a putto with lamb on the back. The excellently preserved enamel dial features green Arabic numerals for the outer five minutes scale and the hours and gold hands. The numbered fine quality movement is fitted with wolf’s toothing and a cylinder escapement.
The cuvette and movement have matching numbers and the cuvette, dial and movement are signed.
